We have met all the criteria to achieve National Healthy School Status and are registered on the national database, by gaining validation in all 8 key areas of the Buckinghamshire Healthy Schools award. This is part of a nationally accredited programme and reflects the Government's recent priorities in this area.
The healthy schools award formally recognises that the physical, mental and emotional health and well-being of all the members of the college community is central to our purpose. Sue Tanner, our Principal said:
" We want both students and staff to flourish here, and this has been another opportunity to ensure that. We want to encourage the development of self-esteem and confidence for all students and staff and make sure that they have the necessary access to information, advice and support."
We have also achieved the Sportsmark award and this award confirms that there is a whole college approach to physical activity combined with healthy eating. Sue Tanner continued:
"We have removed all chocolate vending machines and those offering fizzy drinks after consulting with the College council, which was very supportive of our aims and objectives. Students even say they prefer the diet of water and fruit juices!"
We hope that being a 'healthy school' will enable the students to continue to excel in all aspects of the curriculum.
