Engineering Students at ATG

All of the engineering diploma students were able to visit ATG Training on 6th July. They took part in robotics workshops and saw CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacture) in action with during the visit to the design studio and the CNC (Computer Numerical Control) laboratory.

ATG is the country’s leading provider of cycle maintenance mechanic training which was also of interest with a visit planned there for the future.

One of the highlights was an opportunity to talk with a group of second year apprentices who explained some of the choices they had made, which helped them make the decision to take an engineering apprenticeship.

Some of the highlights mentioned:

‘Seeing the robotic arms moving on a desk in front of us’

‘Watching a part being turned on the CNC’

‘Being able to control the 3 axis-measuring machine’

Engineering is one of our STEM subjects which continue to grow in popularity.

Year 7s are looking forward to a morning of STEM activity on the 19th July. Our new year 7s in September will be taking part in a competition to build the fastest model Bloodhound (The UK’s entry for the world land speed record).
