Catering
Introduction
Our cashless catering system allows students to pay for their College meals using their fingerprints. The information below will take you through some of the system's features and point you in the right direction should you wish to find out more about our cashless catering system or what our cafeteria has to offer.
Biometric Authentication
We use biometric authentication in order to access accounts. Biometric authentication is the automatic recognition of someone using suitable body characteristics. By measuring an individual's physical features and comparing this data with stored biometric reference data, the identity of a specific user is determined. We use fingerprints at The College.
THE IMAGE OF THE FINGERPRINT IS THEN TURNED INTO A MATHEMATICAL ALGORITHM, AND THE IMAGE OF THE ACTUAL FINGERPRINT IS DISCARDED.
This means that everyone can rest assured that fingerprint images cannot be used by any other source for identification purposes.
Students with specific disabilities or those who wish to opt out of the biometric authentication can be provided with a card.
Fingerprint registration will take place on your child’s first day at the College.
How Money is Put onto the System
Online using ParentPay – details of this will be provided a few weeks after your child starts at the College.
Daily Spend Limit
A daily spend limit is automatically set to £8.00 a day for all students. This can be amended by sending an email to the College - see contact details below.
Checking the Balance
Students can check their balance at the revaluation units or at the till point. A balance is also shown on ParentPay, but this is only updated once a day, so please encourage your child to keep an eye on their balance.
Free School Meals
Students who have Free School Meals will automatically have £2.50 a day uploaded to their Cashless Catering account, which will be accessible for that day only. Any money not spent from the Free School Meal allowance will be taken off the account at the end of the day. The £2.50 allocation for the following day will then be uploaded to the account. In addition, we offer a daily breakfast allowance of £1.20 to be used in the Café before 9.10am. Extra money can be added to the account to spend on top of this allowance.
What food is on offer during the School Day?
Our chicken, turkey and beef products are mostly made with halal meat. All halal meat served in our school café is certified and sourced through an approved catering supplier. This is a common approach used by many secondary schools.
Our meals and information on the food served is fully compliant with the Government’s mandatory School Food Standards for schools in England. These standards ensure that food provided in schools is nutritious, balanced and of high quality.
We recognise that families hold a range of views regarding food sourcing. There is signage within the school cafés asking customers with special dietary or cultural requirements to speak to us before purchasing. We serve a wide range of food options, including a range of vegetarian and pork options.
