Dance & Drama
The Drama Department consists of three purpose-built studios with lighting grids. Some of our students are interested in technical theatre and are well-supported in this area. We encourage our space to be a ‘safe space’ where students feel comfortable experimenting, creating, and observing. We hold weekly drama, musical theatre and dance clubs. Opportunities for students interested in the performing arts include the Shakespeare Schools Festival, Team Dance Competition and West End Workshops. We hold a large annual school production that anyone can audition for, this is normally a well-known musical that is a lot of fun! If you decide to choose GCSE or A Level Drama, you will be expected to be involved in this production as the learning experience of working in live theatre is invaluable in order to achieve great grades. GCSE and A Level candidates also have several theatre trips a year. Recent productions seen include Blood Brothers, Mrs Doubtfire and Wicked. There is an opportunity to be involved with all jobs within theatre: acting, singing, dancing, directing, lighting, sound, choreography and costume. For students not wanting a career in theatre, drama builds may transferable skills to make them very employable individuals, such as confidence, communication, collaboration, negotiation, logistics and presenting.
