At the crack of dawn 46 Year 10 to 12 students and 6 staff arrived at Heathrow Airport with oversize suitcases and smiling faces. As parents waved them good bye, the first of many challenges awaited us. Firstly, at check-in, where some of us were over the 23kg limit. There was a lot of transferring of clothes amongst a frenzy of laughter and yes, Mr Howard did have the heaviest bag!
On Wednesday 7th February we took a squad of athletes to the annual Bucks Cross Country Championships at Cottesloe School, Aylesbury.
On Thursday 1st February, 187 students from Year 11 took part in a 6th Form Taster Day. They chose 5 different subjects and attended those lessons i to assist them in making their post 16 choices. Comments from the feedback forms included the words: ‘fun, interactive, informative, entertaining, enjoyable, interesting, practical and well presented.
A group of our Year 11 students visited the Langley Campus, which is one of three campuses under the Windsor Forest Colleges group. Students had previously registered an interest in a variety of courses. They were shown around the campus and experienced sample lessons. The facilities look new and very well equipped. The tutors who delivered the taster sessions made them interesting, fun and informative. Students were told about the courses, how they were assessed, entry levels and were shown around the learning areas.
On Sunday 28th January thirteen students from The Chalfonts Community College took part in the BSGA South Floor and Vault Championships.
ITF Taekwon-Do is a Martial Art with four distinct facets. It is a sport, a martial art, a way of life and a tool for social development.
In a recent ITF competition, Spencer won Gold in Patterns and Silver in Sparring, despite a bloody nose in the first round and having to compete with an older and heavier opponent; he’s a lightweight and his opponent is in the heavyweight class.
This adds to an already successful season of high level competition and we congratulate him for his resilience
and determination.
The sixth form Christmas pantomime, a tradition at The Chalfonts Community College, is a time where students and staff alike can let their hair down and have a little fun.
On Tuesday 19th December Freddy Newbert raised a large amount of money for Action 4 Archie and World Challenge. All students were allowed to wear trainers for a contribution of £1. In return, Freddy shaved off his hair. It was a great thing that Freddy did and we hope that the money raised will get well spent on research.
The Chalfonts Community College’s staff and students took part in the NSPCC Christmas jumper day on Friday 15th December. This event allows students and staff to wear a jumper instead of normal uniform or professional dress in exchange for a donation of at least £1.
On Friday 8th December 2017 a group of approximately fifty Year 9 and 10 students travelled to Lille, France at 4:30 in the morning. We drove in a coach to the port of Dover where, after some duty free, we took the Eurotunnel to Calais.
The Grand Finale of the Spelling Bee competition took place on Thursday, 14th December and the competitors were absolutely phenomenal. I was beginning to run out of words to give to the last two spellers in the Senior Category. It was the word ‘Coulis’ that separated them.
The Junior European Open (first staged in 1993) in association with Sky Sports is widely believed to be the toughest test in junior golf in Europe.
