Basic instructions:
The Chalfonts Community College has been recognised nationally by receiving prestigious awards for their outstanding key stage 5 results last year. The awards are based on 2019 data provided by the Department for Education and Ofsted, and for the school's commitment to collaboration, analysed by SSAT, the Schools, Students and Teachers network.
The Chalfonts Community College was found to be among the best performing non-selective sixth forms in the country, receiving two awards for being in the top 10% nationally for student attainment and achieving significantly higher than national average student progress, in applied general subjects at key stage 5.
The SSAT Educational Outcomes database compares all state-funded schools in England and the highest performing schools in a range of key measures are awarded SSAT Educational Outcomes Awards.
Sue Williamson, Chief Executive of SSAT said:
"Congratulations to The Chalfonts Community College on winning two SSAT Educational Outcomes awards. This success is down to the superb learning and teaching, outstanding support and inspirational leadership of students, staff, parents and governors. You have made a huge difference to the lives of the young people in your school. Thank you."
Dear Parent/Carer,
Yesterday we sent out a communication in regards to Key Workers. The DfE has now clarified this for schools and the information below came out at midnight! Please can you pay particular attention to points 1 and 4 - this is new guidance.
We will keep in contact with you all when further information or direction is available.
Parents whose work is critical to the COVID-19 response include those who work in health and social care and in other key sectors outlined below. Many parents working in these sectors may be able to ensure their child is kept at home. And every child who can be safely cared for at home should be.
Please, therefore, follow these key principles:
1. If it is at all possible for children to be at home, then they should be.
2. If a child needs specialist support, is vulnerable or has a parent who is a critical worker, then educational provision will be available for them.
3. Parents should not rely for childcare upon those who are advised to be in the stringent social distancing category such as grandparents, friends, or family members with underlying conditions.
4. Parents should also do everything they can to ensure children are not mixing socially in a way which can continue to spread the virus. They should observe the same social distancing principles as adults.
5. Residential special schools, boarding schools and special settings continue to care for children wherever possible.
If your work is critical to the COVID-19 response, or you work in one of the critical sectors listed below, and you cannot keep your child safe at home then your children will be prioritised for education provision. Please complete the online form if this applies to you https://forms.gle/bgpR9AkB1s9m5B4u7
Kind regards

Dear Parents,
At 5.15pm today, the Secretary of State for Education gave a public statement that all state-funded schools in England would be closed from the end of the school day on Friday.
He also indicated that all the GCSE, AS and A-level examinations due to take place this Summer, have been suspended; and that students would be credited for their learning in some other way.
Having indicated that all schools would be closed, he then indicated that they would be expected to remain open for the children of key workers and for those in various vulnerable categories – providing a safe place and access to meals. We are expecting a definition of ‘key worker’ tomorrow from the Cabinet Office. It will take time to determine the nature of this provision.
Although we have been anticipating such an announcement, and prepared for various scenarios, the limited details so far released raise considerably more questions than answers. You will all have your own legitimate concerns and queries.
The Secretary of State gave no undertaking that schools would be expected to sustain a pattern of normal learning during the closure; rather that any available staff would be expected to support other frontline efforts. Our school response is yet to be determined.
I will be working this evening and tomorrow with my senior leadership colleagues, and all staff, to clarify as best we can what this announcement means for the school, for our pupils and for you. I anticipate providing more details later tomorrow.
Thank you for your support and for your patience in the meantime.
For the next two days, pupil attendance In Years 7 and 13 should continue as normal within the COVID-19 Public Health England guidance.
Kind regards,
R Denial
Dear Parent and carers
I am writing to let you know that on Thursday 19th and Friday 20th March we will be planning to open the school for years 7, 11 and 13 only. This is due to the increasing difficulty in staffing. Your child’s safety is important to us and we need to ensure that there is appropriate supervision in our school.
I hope that this gives you advanced warning of our intention and to plan for the coming days. There may be further updates and I will communicate this by lunchtime tomorrow (18th March)
Mr R Denial
Principal
At the start of this half term we launched the Options process for all Year 8 students with an introductory briefing and an informed presentation in assembly by Adviza, National Careers Guidance. Students are being encouraged to speak to parents, their subject teachers, tutors and other students at the school about making their option choices.
English Baccalaureate - The Government strongly recommends that all students take a Modern Foreign Language together with either History or Geography at GCSE level. In line with this we expect students to study at least one of these subjects.
The options process will be completed online:
https://www.sims-options.co.uk
Please use the login details from your SIMS Parent App. We use the SIMS Parent App to keep the data we hold up to date. If you require an invitation for this, please contact the school office.
Instructions for the SIMS Parents App can be found here:
https://www.chalfonts.org/parents/sims-parent-app
Our updated prospectus is now available online, which will give you and your child more information about each of the courses on offer. Paper copies are available upon request.
Prospectus: Click here
Usually there are about 20 students who need to choose another option. This is done in consultation with your son/daughter and is the reason why we ask for two reserve choices. Please be aware that we will not run a course if too few students opt for it, and that we will ask teaching staff for their professional view as to suitability for a course.
Number of Options
Students will make 4 option choices. 1 x Ebacc subject and then 3 further options.
Science
Students are not currently set in Year 8. At the end of the first term in Year 9 students will be set. Sets 1 & 2 will form a Triple Science (Separate Science) groups and sets 3-5 will be studying Combined Science. Science does not take up one of your options. Both separate science and combined science are taught in the normal timetabled lessons.
Please see the attached letter from the Principal regarding the Coronavirus and advice for education settings from Public Health England.
Updated: 16th March 2020
Thirty nine year 8 & 9 students and six staff took to the slopes of the Italian Alps during the February half term. Many had not skied before, but by the end of the week they were flying down the mountains. A fantastic experience for all.
